Gregory Field, MD, FACS
Prior to his arrival in the Capital Region, Dr. Field served as a surgeon for Tri-County Surgical Associates in Charleston, SC. He earned his medical degree at Dartmouth Medical School in Hanover, NH, and completed his internship and residency at Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

Dr. Field is board certified and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

Rita Figueroa, MD
A graduate of the University of Iowa with a bachelor of science degree, Dr. Figueroa received her medical degree from Ohio State University in 2001 and completed a residency in general surgery at Mt. Sinai-Cabrini Medical Center in Manhattan in 2006.

Dr. Figueroa has served as attending surgeon at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta, NY since October, 2007, and is experienced in performing an array of general surgery cases, including breast, hernia repairs, cholecystectomy, endoscopies (colonoscopy and EGD), colorectal and hemorrhoidectomies.

Prior to A.O. Fox, Dr. Figueroa served as attending surgeon at Community Medical Center in Port Jervis, NY. She also served as microbiologist for Novo Nordisk in Franklin, NC, where she oversaw the growth of bacteria used to purify proteins for commercial use.

Board-eligible in general surgery, Dr. Figueroa is a member of the Otsego County Medical Society and serves as clinical assistant professor at Albany Medical College.

She is fluent in Spanish and English.

Thoracic Surgery

Carlos Alberto Castro, MD
Dr. Castro has practiced surgery and thoracic surgery since the 1970s throughout the United States. He received his medical degree from the National University of Colombia, Bogota, Columbia and completed internships both in Bogota and at the Jamaica Hospital in Queens, NY. He also completed residencies in general and cardiothoracic surgery at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, as well as a fellowship in cardiovascular surgery at Children's Hospital of Michigan.

Board certified in both surgery and thoracic surgery, Dr. Castro served in surgical positions at the United States Air Force Hospital/Seymour Air Force Base in North Carolina; United States Air Force Medical Center in Dayton, Ohio; and Wilford Hall United States Air Force Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas.

He served in private practice in the Albany/Troy area from 1985 until joining Northeast Health in 2007.
